Everything Old is New Again

Start a New - Old Tradition

The holiday season is fast approaching and what better way to get into the festive spirit than by harvesting your own Christmas tree?

This year, consider starting a new tradition and bringing the family together in the Huron-Manistee National Forest to find the perfect tree. Not only is it a fun activity, but it also promotes sustainability, provides an opportunity to unplug and reconnect with your family.

You will find a variety of tree species, so make sure to choose one that is well-suited for your needs and fits your aesthetic preferences. Once you arrive at the forest, be sure to wear appropriate clothing and footwear, as well as bring along any necessary tools such as a saw or gloves.

Make sure to measure the tree to ensure it will fit in your home before cutting it down. After cutting the tree, be sure to securely tie it to your vehicle for transport.

Harvesting your own Christmas tree can be a memorable experience that brings the family together and creates lifelong memories. So this year, why not try something new and make your family Christmas even more special?

of a lifetime

The Huron-Manistee National Forest in Michigan offers Christmas tree permits for those who wish to cut down their own tree for the holiday season. These permits are available for purchase at various ranger stations and online.

The permit allows for the harvest of one tree per household, with a limit of three permits per person. The trees must be less than 20 feet tall and the stumps must be cut less than six inches above the ground.

It's important to follow all guidelines and regulations when harvesting a Christmas tree from the national forest. This includes staying on designated roads and trails, not cutting down marked trees, and properly disposing of any debris.

The Huron-Manistee National Forest Christmas tree permit is a great opportunity to create a new holiday tradition with family and friends while supporting the forest's ecosystem. Visit the Huron-Manistee National Forest website for more details and to apply for your permit.
